I wouldn’t say I am passionate about travel as much as I am passionate about gaining new experiences and living life beyond the confines of my day-to-day humdrum. If travel is one of the ways, then yes, I am absolutely passionate about it.
While some travel in search of good food or great shopping, I think I’m more fluid. I love exploring new places and having the freedom to roam and do as I please. I consider this a welcome sort of “escape”. If I see something delicious, I’d love to taste it. If I spot a unique design, I’d want to own a piece. I’m all for the touristy things and also for what the locals recommend.
When the opportunity came knocking to explore one of my favourite cities, Bangkok, from a serviced apartment near the Chao Phraya River, klapsons The River Residences, I needed no convincing. Being based away from the shopping belts of Bangkok meant that I would be able to visit a different side of it and that was something that really excited me.
klapsons The River Residences is on the 23rd to 31st floors of The River Condominium (the tallest condominium at 258 metres), offering a spectacular view of the Chao Phraya River and the surrounding city scape.
While it’s about 0.7km away from the city centre, The River is just a ferry ride away from Asiatique, the up-and-coming river-side entertainment and nightlife spot that offers everything from late-night cabaret shows to al fresco pubs with live performances.
Similar to its Singapore counterpart, it boasts a forward-looking modern design that is sophisticated and luxurious. At the same time, it features splashes of bright colours that matches the brand’s tongue-in-cheek tone and personality.
Travelling by Taxi
klapsons The River Residences is pretty new so if your taxi driver is a little unsure of the location, mention that you’re near The Peninsula. If he’s still clueless, mention that you are at “Charoennakorn Road, Klongsan, Bangkok 10600” (Pronounced: Te-nun chr-run-ner-korn, klong-san, krunng-thep nueng-mun-hok-roi).
If your pronunciation fails you, show them this address “ถนนเจริญนคร คลองสาน กรุงเทพฯ 10600” or Google Translate, paste the Thai address in, and click the “listen” button.
Travelling by BTS
Alternatively if you’re looking to travel by public transport, the nearest BTS stations are Saphan Taksin and Krung Thonburi.
There is also a complimentary ferry service that brings guests from Sathorn Pier (Saphan Taksin BTS) to The River Residences and vice versa at regular intervals starting from as early as 6:30am and up till 9:45pm.
This isn’t any old and dingy ferry service, but a really posh five-star air-conditioned ferry experience. A really nice touch and great service especially when you’re looking to get around Bangkok by public transport instead of taxis (to avoid the legendary Bangkok jam).
There’s not only plush seats, but magazines (seriously) and side tables to boot. How’s that for a comfortable five minutes ferry ride?
This was what greeted me the moment I pushed open the door to my one-bedroom serviced apartment: a gorgeous sprawling living area, beautifully furnished and with an attached kitchenette.
My first thought when I stepped in was how perfect this place would be if I were to be here on business spanning a month or more.
The beauty of klapsons The River Residences is that it offers both luxury and convenience. Housekeeping is available daily and you’ll find that this will free you from the nitty gritty when you’d much rather go from work to play than work to, well, cleaning up. After all, Bangkok is a city that has so much to offer, both in the day and late into the wee hours of the morning even. Coming back to a clean and stress-free environment is such a relief.
When I was in Bangkok, I spent a lot of late evenings working and taking short breaks watching cable channels showing The Blacklist and CSI on TV, stopping to heat myself an instant meal and then continuing with work. I loved that I had everything I need at my fingertips.
When I felt like taking a break, there were complimentary juices and soft drinks in the fridge, a microwave for me to heat up my food (I often bought supplies from Vue Shopping Mall just five minutes away by foot), cup noodles, coffee capsules and a coffee machine. The TV was a Smart TV (oh yeah) so I could even surf the web on it or watch YouTube. It felt just like a second home, only more comfortable.
How about the bedroom, you ask? It was an absolute dream. It was such a spacious bedroom with a firm bed, plush pillows and killer view.
Full-length sliding doors overlooked the city, the bed was firm and pillows were plush. There was a working desk, TV, and even a little sofa.
What’s more it also boasted a large ensuite bathroom had both bathtub and shower (rain shower and hand shower included).
Along with the essential amenities like shower caps, vanity kits and toothbrush sets, I found Chopard toiletries lined up in my bathroom. I thought that these were a nice touch.
For what it’s worth, the slightly off city centre location and the 30-minute taxi rides to the bustling central part of Bangkok, are all worth it when I end up falling into bed in my one bedroom serviced suite. Deciding to stay in a different part of Bangkok brings with it a different flavour, and if you’re like me, chasing whole new experience, then this will be such an amazing place to end your day in.
I wake up every morning to light streaming in through gorgeous full-length sliding doors which I truly appreciate. I am not a light sleeper, so I’m able to sleep without drawing the curtains. In fact, I love the feeling of sunlight falling onto my face and waking up to that brightness. It’s a fabulous feeling to wake up to.
And I don’t know about you, but in the evening, walking out into the balcony, through the sliding doors just a couple of steps from my bedside and seeing this breathtaking view of this other side of Bangkok is just amazing.
I really felt for that couple of minutes as the sun set on the horizon and cast a golden glow over the buildings of Bangkok, I was totally at ease and had nothing on my mind. This in itself is a simple luxury.
If you’ll be staying with family or friends, klapsons The River Residences has three-bedroom serviced apartments as well that will be perfect for large travel parties.
If you thought my one-bedroom apartment was a sight for sore eyes, wait till you take a look at the three-bedroom! It has a larger kitchenette, wide open dining area, spacious living room, three rooms, including one that has a crazy view of the Chao Phraya River, and a bathroom that has this extremely stylish round tub.
klapsons The River Residences also offers a range of facilities and services that will rival many hotels. From 24-hour concierge services to a beautiful pool, there’s everything you need for a relaxing extended stay here.
24-hour Concierge Service
Challenged by language barrier but would love to enjoy everything Bangkok has to offer? The 24-hour Concierge service offered by klapsons means that you can request for any help pertaining to your stay. This includes assistance with dining or spa reservations, recommendations and more.
The Concierge is extremely helpful and prompt. Every request is in good hands and even if something doesn’t work out, for example, a restaurant is full and a reservation can’t be made, a call will be made back to inform you of the unsuccessful reservation and alternatives offered in its place.
The reception area is on the 23rd floor and is a perfect place to lounge and work at if you’re looking to leave the privacy of your one, two or three-bedroom serviced apartment.
You’ll find lovely interesting art pieces and furniture by Italian designer William Sawaya and of course complimentary hot beverages for a mid-day perk-me-up.
Well-Equipped Fitness Centre
There’s a pretty well-equipped fitness centre as well on Level 5. There’s the cardio machines, a range of free-weights and even fitness balls.
The fitness centre also features ceiling to floor windows so you can look right out into the sports courts (people watching, anyone?) and lush greenery.
Whether you prefer a dip outdoors in the sun or to swim indoors in the shade, klapsons The River Residences overkills with not one, not two, but three gorgeous infinity pools.
The outdoor pools are also surrounded with little cabanas and shaded spots. There’s no shortage of places to gather at and chill out at after a tiring day of sight-seeing or meetings (whichever it is you’re in Bangkok for).
I absolutely loved the level of service, amenities and facilities offered by klapsons The River Residences and I thought that the rooms were beautifully designed for the traveller who enjoys the finer things in life and a certain contemporary aesthetic.
It may be an overkill for short trips, but as this is a serviced apartment made for longer-term stays, you’ll truly appreciate the little touches of hospitality that make being away from home still a comfortable and welcome experience.
