4 Party Season Looks with Maybelline Tone on Tone Nudes and Liners

I have a pretty cut-and-dried approach to my makeup. I stick to neutrals and stay clear of glitter. Given that party season is around the corner, I thought I’d loosen up a bit and add some sparkle to my make up repertoire. Just spent a couple of hours over the weekend creating a couple of looks that are, by my standards, pretty adventurous with a couple of new make up products: Maybelline Tone on Tone Nudes ($18.90), Hyper Glitz Ink Liquid Liner ($18.90) and Hyper Tight Liner ($20.90).

I really want to shine the spotlight on these convenient dual eye shadow sticks from Maybelline. They’ve named them Tone on Tone Nudes and they come in four creamy neutral tones.

Application of the cream shadow stick is smooth and you can layer it onto eyelids with the lighter hue above. Use fingers or brush to quickly blend and you’re done just like that. I found them really easy to use and the two complementary hues applied beautifully. The Tone on Tone Nudes retail at $18.90 each and I appreciate the affordable drug store price range. Bang for buck? Absolutely. I hope they’ll launch more dual shadow sticks in future.

Bed of Roses

A softer, more natural look focusing on rose tones with shimmer on the eyes and pearlescent finish on the lips

This is by far the look that’s closest to my usual “natural” make up style. The Maybelline Tone on Tone Nudes in Cherry on Cake is one of my favourites because it’s the most romantic shade of the four.

I thought it would be well complemented with a swipe of the Hyper Tight Liner, which could create such a precise tight line thanks to the 15-degree angled pen brush. Took a couple of test applications to get used to the special angle, but once I got the hang of it, lining my lids with the Hyper Tight Liner is easy-peasy!

The Classic

A classic look centred on bold red lips that’s party perfect, complemented with soft shimmery brown hues on eyes with a dark liner with glitter

The strong bold red lip never grows old. For this look, I thought both Love on Taupe (oh, I love the pun) and Bonnie on Clyde would go well with the red, but I eventually decided on the slightly punchier, darker hues of Love on Taupe.

I love how buildable the colour is for the Maybelline Tone on Tone Nudes eye shadow sticks. To make sure I wasn’t stealing too much attention away from the red lips, I chose to be light handed with the cream shadow stick application and doing one or two swipes instead of really laying it on. I also wanted just a touch of glitter, so I chose to use the Hyper Glitz Ink Liner in Cosmic Black. I really liked the result!

Feeling Blue

A playful look that puts the spotlight on bright punchy blue and greens with specks of glitter and silver shimmer

The Maybelline Tone on Tone Nudes in Star on Edge is a gorgeous silver and gunmetal combination which works so well with the blue and emerald tones I had every intention to play with.

I lined my upper eyelids with the Hyper Glitz Ink Liner in Moon Navy and made sure it was thick enough to cover a portion of my lids even with my eyes open. I used a light hand and lined my bottom outer eyelids with the Hyper Glitz Ink Liner in Aurora Green. I thought an orange-red shade of lippie would make the blue pop and still have that fun vibe. I don’t know about you, but I was a little Elsa inspired (check out the braids).

As Good As Gold

Gold hues all round just missing a little bit of gloss on those plum painted lips

Honestly, this look had so much potential. Shoulda, coulda, woulda! My eyes were all ready to party, and only let down by my lack of attention to my lips. I regret not applying a complementary plum gloss over my lipstick to perfect the look, but it is too late now! That said, I really found my eyes surprisingly stunning in this look. (I don’t usually do gold and glittery gold at that.)

I used the Hyper Glitz Ink Liner in Stardust Gold which is my other favourite product out of the lot. When coupled with the light champagne gold and deeper bronze cream duo from the Maybelline Tone on Tone Nudes in Bonnie on Clyde, the Stardust Gold liner looks really alluring on eyes. Don’t forget to lightly apply the lighter champagne gold shade on the lower lids. I find that a nice touch that really pulls the look together. I’ll surely wear this eye look again with a more flattering lippie in plum, maroon or mauve after I get my lips exfoliated!

The Tone on Tone Nudes ($18.90), Hyper Glitz Ink Liquid Liner ($18.90) and Hyper Tight Liner ($20.90) are all available at all Maybelline counters as of 1 November 2017.

Hi, I just got mine and find that it creased, even with primer. Wondering does it creases on you?? Thx

      Hi Jacque,

I don’t experience creasing on my lids because my face and eyelids are pretty dry. I understand creasing can happen if lids get a little oily through the day, but this is not a problem I personally experience! If it’s still creasing with your current primer, I think there are a few things you could consider trying:

      1. Switch to a primer with a mattifying formula
      2. Try not to introduce more oil to your lids by using your fingers to apply the primer – use a brush instead

Not sure if these will help!

      Cheers,
      Carrie

Hi thanks for the reply. It really didn’t work for me when no other stick shadows crease despite having not so dry lids. I’m using two face primer currently.. Maybe I could skip the eye cream in the morning when I want to use this lol. Anyway I’ll keep trying and if still can’t probably bin it. Thank God it’s not expensive!! Lol
